CHRISTMAS IN KAYSVILLE 1957 -- With the Thanksgiving holiday finished the Yule season is again being ushered in and citizens of Kaysville have already started on plans for this years big holiday. Davis High School has begun it's "Sub For Santa" program sponsored annually by the Pro Schola club. The Kaysville Civic Association has begun making assignments for the decoration of Kaysville. The Kaysville Lion's Club has been assigned the responsibility of decorating the area north of the city building and the Kaysville Rotary Club has been placed in charge of decorating for business establishments. Kaysville City will be in charge of the Lighting. The 6 LDS wards in Kaysville have begun plans for special Christmas programs. -- A mix of classic and modern motif paid off for Ray W. Phillips, Fruit Heights, winner of the Kaysville area Home Lighting Contest. The Phillip's, winner of 1st prize $15 have rigged a loudspeaker on the roof of their brick home to play carols to the neighboring area. Decorations included a Christmas Angel, Santa Claus and his reindeer and multicolored lighting. 2nd place was awarded to Burt H. Whipple 272 E 2nd S. -- A free movie for the children of Kaysville will be shown Tuesday at the Kaysville Theater. It is sponsored by Lee Liston, theater owner. Children will be given a treat by the Jr. Chamber of Commerce said JC President Howard Green. -- Kaysville Rotary Club entertained at the annual Christmas party at Oakridge Country Club Wednesday said T. Leland Frost, President. There was entertainment and favors. PHOTO: Holiday Greetings, Hill Top Times 12-13-1957  CHRISTMAS IN KAYSVILLE 1955 -- Yule lighting contest held this year under the joint sponsorship of Kaysville Jr. Chamber of Commerce and the Kaysville Civic Association is being promoted to "Spread The Spirit of Christmas" by means of decorating with lights. Our community will receive a great many benefits form an all out effort to decorate our homes. It will provide pleasure for everyone participating, it will help beautify our city at this season of the year, and it will foster friendly community spirit. Contest entry forms can be obtained at all Kaysville Business establishments. -- First place in the Kaysville Christmas Lighting Contest went to Mr. and Mrs. Don Thompson 165 S 1st E, according to George Talbot, contest chairman. The Thompson's rooftop display consisted of Santa ready to go down the chimney and his 8 reindeer. Lights were placed in the shrubs and the house was attractively decorated. The winner received a $25 cash prize and will represent this community in a National Lighting Contest. Other winners were Earl H. Goaslind 271 E 2nd S, second place $15, and Monte J. Petersen 445 N 115 S, third place $10. Contest judges were Clair Frischknecht and Orson Hinton both of Ogden. CHRISTMAS IN KAYSVILLE 1948 - All Kaysville Children are invited to attend a special Christmas party and witness the arrival of Santa Claus on Christmas Eve in front of the City Hall. The children will be guests of the local Rotary Club. Ronald M. Tippetts, president of the club said old St. Nick, which will arrive in town on the fire truck will distribute candy and other presents. The party will get underway at 6:30pm and will feature Christmas music and songs. -- Thru the cooperation of every businessman in the community of Kaysville and Kaysville City, Christmas in the city will be outstanding E. L. Tall city councilman in charge of the Lighting Program reported. Small decorated Christmas trees are being placed on each little pole in the business district and beautiful loops of colored lights were being strung from the top arm of the poles to brackets supporting the trees. 2 large Christmas trees will adorn the city hall grounds and trees in front of the city building will be lighted  HOPING YOU WILL ALL SHARE YOUR FAVORITE MEMORIES OF LIVING IN KAYSVILLE AT CHRISTMAS -- HERE IS ONE OF MINE -- 1954 - Christmas Eve, my mom was always stressed, Christmas did not make her smile. I got my play kitchen cupboard that year from Santa (later found out my dad made it for me) My younger brother Brent showing his love of football at the tender age of 2, Steven smiling just happy it is Christmas. -- We roasted hot dogs in our fireplace every year. My dad had a movie camera with bright lights that could melt a box of Christmas chocolates in a matter of seconds  CHRISTMAS IN KAYSVILLE 1956 -- "Silent Night, Holy Night" will ring out through the streets of Kaysville tomorrow as the Kaysville Civic Association turns on the street lights with a program of carols. The children's chorus is under the direction of Mrs. Sally Bachman, the adult mixed chorus will be directed by Mrs. Park Williams and Mrs. Hod Sanders will direct the community singing. The program featuring community caroling will be held on the steps of the City hall and all residents are invited. The singing will begin at 6:30PM. The program to be featured will include 3 numbers by the children's chorus, community singing and trumpet and the mixed chorus which will include Afton Galbraith, Beth Dredge, Darlene Brown, Barbara Winkelman, Opal Neilson, Jan Webster, Mary Rutledge, Lucille Strong, Chistine Maxfield, Allen Stron, Jay Green, Melvin Manning, Wendell Maxfield and Jimmie Nielson. Robert Little will be the pianist. Assisting the chairman will be Mrs. Gibbs Smith and Mrs. Henry Galbraith. The lights will be turned on for the "Nativity Scene." Santa Claus and his reindeer, street lights and colored lights on the scrubs will also be turned on. Wallace King, general chairman said St. Nick will distribute gifts for the children after the show. 3 teams of carolers will tour the town. Mrs. Leland Frost, Mrs. Hod Sanders, Mrs. Reed Gunnell and Mrs. Wayne K. Sheffield comprise the women's Parent-teacher Association quartet. The men's PTA quartet is comprised of Arlis Steiner, Bud Featherstone, Clifton Blamires, and Dr. C. Peterson. The JCK's sextet included Mrs. Charles Dredge, Mrs. J. P. Collier, Mrs. Wendell Maxfield, Mrs. Ross Brown, Mrs. C. Peterson, and Mrs. J. Nelson. 2 Yuletide scenes have been constructed on either side of the city building civic center. Christmas Nativity scene was made by Van Sanders, Rotary Club, C. N. Palmer Lions Club and their members. A playground scene built on the other side of the Kaysville city building was made by LaMar Green, Jr. Chamber of Commerce, Max Sandall, American Legion and members of their clubs. Children's activities during the day in charge of the KCA Youth Council are: Mrs. Lee Liston, chairman, Mrs. Charles Dredge and Rufus Benton. -- Yuletide celebrations at Davis High School will be highlighted by 2 assemblies Thursday and Friday. The theme for the assemblies is "Things That I Like About Christmas." A 30 piece orchestra and a 200 voice chorus will participate in the program. Christmas decorations throughout the school have been prepared by students under the auspices of the Art Department. Individual classes have sponsored room festivities. -- The Kaysville branch of the American Association of University Women will hold it's Christmas party Friday at 7:30pm at the home of Mrs. Florence Barton. Members of the committee in charge are Dee Rushforth, Mrs. Barton, Ione Grange, Julia Neville and Helen K. Sheffield. They have planned the party with a fantasy Christmas theme. Bags of candy were passed out afterwards at the Kaysville City Building lawn. -- Kaysville Elementary school will have a PTA program Thursday at 7:30pm. Rooms will be decorated and parents and children will gather around a Christmas tree in the gymnasium to sing Christmas Carols, principal G. Henry Rampton said. -- All persons with discarded toys and other items which may be repaired are being asked to act as subs for Santa this year. The "Sub For Santa" program is being sponsored by the Kaysville Lions Club. Members will repair and renovate items and on Christmas make some children happy who might have otherwise been forgotten. A collection station has been set at Johnny's Utoco Service 1st North and Main St. Those who wish to donate can also call Kaysville 179-J, 795-W or 698-W -- A combination of Pep Rally, Christmas Caroling, dancing, refreshments and a program will send Davis High School students home for the Christmas holidays Friday afternoon according to Bob Rose, Student Body President. The Christmas party will start in the afternoon and linger until after the dance. Students in charge of the dance are Sherry Schaffer and Ferris Collett. Alton Clark, Joan Stringham, Bill Workman, and Dixie Brewerton are members of the refreshment committee. J. Proudfoot's. She has an elegant assortment. A half ton of candy and nuts arrived last week. -- Professor Linford and family of Logan are expecting to spend Christmas in Kaysville. -- H. J. Sheffield Store has extra fine turkey birds this year for the holidays. They average 17 pounds each. -- The Oregon Shortline Railway Company expect to have their new station house finished by Christmas so agent Thomason will be able to begin his labors in the new quarters on New Years Day. -- The holiday goods that are left at Sheffield's store after Christmas will be sold at cost. -- One of the most delightful features at the Presbyterian Church was a Christmas duet by Lester and Ernest Gleason. These little fellows are ages 8 and 10 and yet they played the piccolo and cornet with precision and accuracy of masters. An encore was insisted upon. -- Elder Ernest Marston is expected home for Christmas. -- H. J.
