KAYSVILLE KINKS - #85 IN SERIES - JANUARY 1898
  • The frigid North wind that prevailed Sunday drove the mercury to register from 20 degrees below zero. The prospects are tonight will be another stinger.
  • It is expected that school will open on Monday in the new school house in the southwest part of the 8th school district with Miss Martha Smith of Salt Lake as teacher. The building is planned for 40 to 50 students.
  • 25 deaths occurred in Kaysville during 1897, and there were 30 interments in the cemetery, 5 of which were persons from outside places. Of the interments 19 were males, 11 female.
  • Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Barnes gave a very pleasant informal social at their home last evening. The hours were whiled away in games, singing, instrumental music, recitations and general merry making.
  • A telegram was received announcing the death of William Wilkie Galbraith. The sad event occurred yesterday at Diaz, Chihuahua, Mexico where he and his family have made their home the past 8 years. Kaysville was his home for many years. He came to Utah in 1854. In 1868 he managed the contract on the construction of the Union Pacific Railroad thru Weber Canyon which united East and West at Promontory in 1869. William was identified with Lumber and Milling Industries in Davis County. He was promoter and founder of the Syracuse Salt Works. He leaves 4 wives and 23 children to mourn his loss. He will be buried in Mexico. (SEE PHOTO for additional info)
  • Mrs. Hannah Phillips, the oldest lady settler of Kaysville and one of the first that located in Davis County died of old age and decrepitude. She and her husband the late Edward Phillips settled on what was later called Kays Creek and it was in their cabin that the Kays Ward was first organized.

On August 1, 2018 Kristine decided to begin a series of excerpts from the newspaper called These excerpts were taken from articles about local happenings/gossip/announcements etc. It tells a story and gives a feel for Kaysville back in the day.
Kaysville Kinks were originally published on the the Facebook group page, Our Kaysville Story.  Click on the link to join the group page.

Kristine is an amazing lady who loves the town she grew up in, her family, and the color purple.
