KAYSVILLE KINKS - #77 IN SERIES - MAY 1897
  • C. D. Bennett's residence was burglarized Tuesday while the family was absent and 2 coats, a vest and a pair of pants were stolen. Tramps are suppose to have done the deed. Sheriff Abbott is after them. Entrance to the house was made thru a pantry door.
  • Friday's rain showers were gratefully received.
  • Kaysville is fast becoming a central point for the breeding of thoroughbred Costwold sheep. Prominent among those engaged in the industry are William L. Galbraith, J. B. Meredith and Charles Layton.
  • The closing exercises of the 8th school district were conducted at the Music Hall yesterday. A good program was rendered. In the afternoon the schools went to Webster's Grove and enjoyed themselves. A dance in the evening at Webster's Pavilion closed the day's sport.
  • Henry Holmes is assisting John Barton at his furniture and undertaking business.
  • Mrs. Proudfoot has kept her ice cream parlor open on Sundays only up to the present but will be open steadily from now on.
  • PHOTO: Mary Jane Wigglesworth Proudfoot (1858-1934) She ran an ice cream and candy shop in part of her husband's James barber shop (area currently Horizon Credit Union 37 E 100 N) Mary Jane also ran her knitting factory and her umbrella making business from this space. She was a petite little lady always dressed to the hilt, never leaving her house without her embroidered gloves and parasol.

On August 1, 2018 Kristine decided to begin a series of excerpts from the newspaper called These excerpts were taken from articles about local happenings/gossip/announcements etc. It tells a story and gives a feel for Kaysville back in the day.
Kaysville Kinks were originally published on the the Facebook group page, Our Kaysville Story.  Click on the link to join the group page.

Kristine is an amazing lady who loves the town she grew up in, her family, and the color purple.
