KAYSVILLE KINKS - #75 IN SERIES - MARCH 1897
  • It is reported that Frank Wilson, who was struck by one of Uncle Sam's mail bags, has started suit to recover damages for injuries he sustained.
  • Misses Freeze and Gee, teachers in the Presbyterian School, are heading a movement which they hope will culminate in prohibition. They are trying to get people to pledge themselves to absolutely dispense with the use of liquor.
  • John Owen is building a 4 room house
  • The Kaysville Home Dramatic Company is rehearsing the drama "Bound By An Oath" and will present it on Wednesday at the Music Hall.
  • George E. Barton and William Gailey received calls this morning to prepare for missions in the Northern states and Southern states respectively.
  • Elijah Laycock has sold his farm to Chris Boynton for $3,300.
  • Harry Barnes, a lad of 16 years, was badly hurt about the eye with a gun cap which had been placed on the stove. When it exploded a piece struck him in the eye.
  • A committee has been appointed to make arrangements for the dinner and entertainment of the Old Folks of Kaysville. It will honor all who have passed the age of 60. The Kaysville Brass Band will be in attendance. It is expected about 200 persons will be present.
  • Nathan Reeves is answering to the new title of "papa" since Friday morning. It's a girl.
  • PHOTO: It's a Girl -- Muriel Reeves (1897-1980) was the daughter born that day to Nathan and Effie Reeves. Muriel was one of the favorite school teachers at Kaysville Elementary for many years. She remained single and lived in the family home her entire life. Courtesy Ancestry

     On August 1, 2018 Kristine decided to begin a series of excerpts from the newspaper called These excerpts were taken from articles about local happenings/gossip/announcements etc. It tells a story and gives a feel for Kaysville back in the day.
