KAYSVILLE KINKS - #70 IN SERIES - OCT 1896
  • James H. Larkins was a passenger on the westbound Union Pacific train that was held up at the mouth of Weber Canyon. The robbers crept into the cab of the engine and demanded the train be stopped. Their next move was to detach the coaches from the baggage car. They tied sacks over the heads of the crew. The bandits were novices, their tools clumsy and knew nothing about safe cracking. The explosives failed to blow open the safe. The desperados ended up with only a mail sack. Mr. Larkin's said there were some exciting scenes on the passenger coach. Women were frantic, and many of the sterner sex were scarcely less perturbed. Officers of the law scoured the country but no suspects have been seen.
  • 2 Kaysville boys Oscar Bennett and William Garlick, who enlisted as soldiers in the 16th Infantry several years ago, also had to leave Salt Lake with that Company when it was moved North.
  • Last Friday an old man who was not right in mind, entered the home of Mrs. Nichols at 2:30am, just walking in. Constable Gailey took him to Farmington and put him in the county jail. It was later reported he had strayed from Ogden.
  • William Allen has resigned the leadership of the Kaysville Brass Band on account of being crowded with architecture and also lack of interest on the part of some of the men in the band.
  • Mrs. John Barton has been very sick with malaria but has turned for the better.
  • H. J. Sheffield is still buying bees wax and will pay 20 cents per pound. He could use 3 tons of it.
  • Nathan Reeves family expect to take their first dinner in their new house on Sunday.
  • George Blood started this morning for Logan to attend the BY College.

    Kristine Murdock

On August 1, 2018 Kristine decided to begin a series of excerpts from the newspaper called These excerpts were taken from articles about local happenings/gossip/announcements etc. It tells a story and gives a feel for Kaysville back in the day.
Kaysville Kinks were originally published on the the Facebook group page, Our Kaysville Story.  Click on the link to join the group page.

Kristine is an amazing lady who loves the town she grew up in, her family, and the color purple.
