KAYSVILLE KINKS - #68 IN SERIES - AUGUST 1896
  • Thomas Croft agent for The Singer Sewing Machine Company was arrested on Tuesday for selling machines without a license.
  • Upon returning from a trip George and H. J. Sheffield Jr. found that burglars had entered their home and relieved them of 2 watches, a silk handkerchief, a pocket mirror, and a pocket dictionary.
  • People say now the reservoir is built they have twice as much time and double the amount of water they have had over the years.
  • John Layton is putting a foundation in for a new house.
  • Elizabeth Bowler Layton, wife of Charles Layton (my children's 3rd great grandmother) died on August 21. Dropsy and Rheumatics are believed to be her afflictions. The funeral was at the meeting house. 27 buggies followed her remains to the cemetery.
  • The Public School will open it's doors this year on September 14
  • Bishop Peter Barton and wife lost their infant daughter Bertha last Sunday. She was a bright, promising child and the family feel her loss keenly.
  • An infant son of Mr. and Mrs. George Green was interred in the Kaysville Cemetery on Wednesday.
  • Nathan Reeves new house is up and the roof on, ready for the plasterers. It contains 6 rooms, a pantry and is designed to have 3 porches. The rooms are conveniently arranged and well lighted and ventilated.
  • PHOTO - NATHAN AND EFFIE REEVES HOME LOCATED AT 39 S 100 W. The exterior walls are 3 layers of brick. Ornate woodwork decorate the rooms with high transoms over the doors. Photo I took in 2009.

    Kristine Murdock

On August 1, 2018 Kristine decided to begin a series of excerpts from the newspaper called These excerpts were taken from articles about local happenings/gossip/announcements etc. It tells a story and gives a feel for Kaysville back in the day.
Kaysville Kinks were originally published on the the Facebook group page, Our Kaysville Story.  Click on the link to join the group page.

Kristine is an amazing lady who loves the town she grew up in, her family, and the color purple.
