KAYSVILLE KINKS- #67 IN SERIES - JULY 1896
  • Bishop John Roueche is removing his goods and family to Millville. He will locate a store on his farm on the main traveled road. We wish him an abundant success.
  • Charles Cottrell Sr. met with a painful accident on Monday. Somewhere near the dummy tracks his horse became frightened and started to run. When he got it stopped he found one of his little fingers was nearly severed at the 1st joint.
  • Miss Annie Bone, our County queen went to Salt Lake Tuesday to get ready for the carnival.
  • The people of Kaysville celebrated Pioneer Day with a quiet and appropriate manner at Webster's Grove and as a rule, we believe, a general good time was had.
  • Mayor Phillips, G. F. Patillo, and J. H. Blood took a fishing trip to East Canyon last week. After their return it was apparent they did not have the best of luck.
  • John G. M. Barnes residence, now in construction, will when finished become another fine addition to the list of elegant homes that may be seen in different places of the city. It will be 2 story in height and built of nice red pressed brick. On the 1st floor there is a parlor, dining room, kitchen, one bedroom, also summer kitchen, hallway, pantry, and bathroom. 4 bedrooms are located on the upper floor and space is set apart for a tank if he should ever decide to put in another bathroom. There is also a cellar under a portion of the building. The ground where the house stands had to be drained before the foundation could be laid.
  • PHOTO: John G. M. Barnes Home, 42 W Center (2004) Architect William Allen designed the home. It was built from local brick made at the Ward Brickyard on the Mountain Road. John G. M. owned canneries and would can tomatoes in his Syracuse cannery for the Campbell Soup Company. This home was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982

On August 1, 2018 Kristine decided to begin a series of excerpts from the newspaper called These excerpts were taken from articles about local happenings/gossip/announcements etc. It tells a story and gives a feel for Kaysville back in the day.
Kaysville Kinks were originally published on the the Facebook group page, Our Kaysville Story.  Click on the link to join the group page.

Kristine is an amazing lady who loves the town she grew up in, her family, and the color purple.
