KAYSVILLE KINKS - #88 IN SERIES - MAY 1898
  • Girls, what is the use of wasting time and money and harassing the feelings of the moralist for using complexion powders when the same results can be had by getting a nice parasol at H. J. Sheffield's store? -- Boys, are you exposed to the scorching rays of the sun? You should remember there is nothing more comfortable for summer than a nice straw hat. H. J. Sheffield's store has a very seasonable line to choose from.
  • After battling an unrelenting case of consumption (pulmonary tuberculosis) Mrs. Adelaide Owen, wife of Melville, T. Owen, succumbed to the grim destroyer.
  • Kaysville Pupils who passed the examination for graduation are: Maggie Layton, Lizzie Burton, Emily Barnes, Lizzie Barnes, Ethel Stewart, F.A. Sheffield, Charles T. Burton, and Alfred Allen. Miss Agnes Swan stands at the head of the graduates with the highest average score.
  • Mr. and Mrs. James Proudfoot have just received a big stock of umbrella sticks and furnishings and expect to go into the umbrella making and repairing business. They learned the craft in the old country Scotland, where they are from.
  • The war spirit is among us. (The Spanish-American War) The patriotic young men of Kaysville that have volunteered are John H. Meredith, William Maddick, John R. Woolsey, William H. Clawson, Fred Bennett, George Croft, Garrett Clow, Frank Edmond, and Nicholas Bonnemort. Oscar Bennett is already with the 16th Infantry Army. The men still have to have their examinations to qualify.
  • An enthusiastic farewell was given for those who volunteered to help Uncle Sam. It took place at the Music Hall. The program commenced with the crowd singing "America" After the program the evening was spent in dancing.
  • Joseph Egbert, one of Kaysville's Pioneers died in Ogden on Tuesday. The funeral services will be held at the meeting house at 1 o' clock.

     On August 1, 2018 Kristine decided to begin a series of excerpts from the newspaper called These excerpts were taken from articles about local happenings/gossip/announcements etc. It tells a story and gives a feel for Kaysville back in the day.
